Founder of the Museum

Witt Museum, which is also known in the literature under the abbreviation MWM, is fully indebted by its collections, library and worldwide connections to the work of self-taught person, who initially had completely different education in economy. The autobiography of the certificated businessman, Prof. Dr. h.c. rer. nat. Dipl.-Kfm. Thomas J. WITT, shows him not only as a publisher of new data in his field of study, but as an author of numerous personal publications and as a coauthor of many publications on taxonomy and faunistics, which are illustrated in his lifetime project autobibliography.
In 2001 Thomas WITT was awarded with the Ritter-von-Spix-medal for his merits for the Zoologische Staatssammlung Munich. In 2013 the Doctor honoris causa rerum naturalium was granted to Dipl.-Kfm. Thomas J. Witt by the vice dean of the Faculty of Biology of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) in Munich. In December 2017 Dr. h.c. Thomas J. Witt received the title of Professor in Entomology at the faculty for Entomology at the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako, Mali.
