GB/24: Vollständige Reihe der "Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London"

Zoological Society of London: Proceedings. Vols. 1-151 (1830-1967) with 6591 plates, of which 3738 are lithographs (1890 of these are hand-coloured or chromolithographed) by Wolf, Smit, Keulemans, Sowerby, Grönvold, Frohawk etc. Includes 8 separate indexes up to 1928 and a supplement of a record of the progress of the Zoological Society of London during the 19th century with one map (1900). Bound in 180 full cloth or h.calf bindings, all with the gilt stamp of the Royal Society of London on the spine (a few rebacked).

= Rare complete set especially in regard to the 8 atlases in the beginning (divided into Aves, Annulosa, Radiata, Reptiles, Fishes, Mollusks, Mammalia etc.) with 532 lithographs, of which 397 are hand-coloured and often lacking in other copies. This most famous zoological journal includes many detailed descriptions, especially of birds and fish all over the world. Three plates have been reproduced and added loosly in the Annulosa atlas. We added the important Index to the Artists from 1848 to 1900 by ROOT and JOHNSON. We counted the lithographed plates up til the year 1913, or volume 83 (after the first World War most plates are not lithographs but photographs). The years 1830 to 1847 have no plates at all. Published as Proceedings up to vol. 145 (1964) and continued as Journal of Zoology. Apart from the three plates in reproduction, an absolutely complete set in a very good condition with a great provenance.
